Ms.Cassandra Jones has been a full-time Visual Art teacher at Pomona Catholic since 2017. She graduated Pomona Catholic in 2009 and went on to pursue her love of the Arts. After completing undergraduate work in Studio Art and Art history at California State University of San Bernardino, Ms. Jones has participated in several art exhibitions, and worked under many artists. In 2020 she earned her graduate degree at the Azusa Pacific University specializing in Modern and Contemporary Art History. Ms. Jones has worked at various galleries and traveled to many exhibits around the U.S. While at Pomona Catholic, Ms. Jones has helped with the creation of sets for drama productions such as The Importances of Being Ernest, Evita, The Duchess of Malfi and Anything Goes. At Pomona Catholic she also serves as the Head of the Visual and Performing Art Department, teaches World History, and is an advisor for both the Associated Student Body and yearbook.

COURSE OBJECTIVES

Students will learn and identify the art elements (line, color, texture, value, shape, space and value) and principles of design (rhythm, balance, movement, emphasis, pattern, contrast, etc.) in their artworks and those of artists in history/artists from different cultures. Students will build on their vocabulary of art terms, identify materials and their uses, and work through processes and studio productions techniques. They will further develop technical skills in various artistic mediums and the ability to utilize visual communication as a means of self-expression. By the end of the course students should develop an artistic voice and more independence in the studio process.

COURSE DESCRIPTION

Throughout the course of Visual Arts students will focus on technical skills in the areas of two-dimensional and three-dimensional art, such as drawing, painting, mixed media, ceramics and sculpture. They will explore these concepts through the learning of the elements and principles of art in a variety of ways. In this course students will also study the historical and cultural aspects of drawing and painting. Overall students will have more sophisticated experiences in understanding art production, art criticism and aesthetics.
