MRS. Haskins
Mrs. Linda Figueroa-Haskins was educated at the University of California, Berkeley where she received her B.A. in English. She later received her M.A. in English at California State Polytechnic University, Pomona specializing in Native American literature and orature. She teaches both theater and English classes at Pomona Catholic. Mrs. Haskins has been a professional educator for nearly 25 years and has been directing theater since her days at Berkeley where she believes that few things promote the spiritual, emotional, and physical edification of children quite the way that live theater does. Her past shows include Pyramus and Thisby, Love’s Labor’s Lost, The Crucible, As You Like It, Jesus Christ Superstar, Macbeth, The Wiz, The Spanish Tragedy, Damn Yankees!, Native American Mythology: An Evening of Honor and Celebration, The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, The Apollo of Bellac, The Ugly Duckling, Romeo and Juliet, You Can’t Take it With You, Godspell, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Everyman, Good News!, Babes in Arms, Zombie Prom, Guys and Dolls, Snow White Goes West, Antigone, The Importance of Being Earnest, Evita, A Punk Rock Cinderella, Murder by Death, The Duchess of Malfi, The Miser, Anything Goes, Charley’s Aunt, Faustus, West Side Story, Miss Firecracker Contest, and Xanadu.
"Greater Theater So to Bring Greater Glory to God"
The Pomona Catholic Theater Program is a high school and middle school program located in Pomona, California which posits Christ at the center of its artistic community. Believing that few things physically, spiritually, and emotionally edify children as well as theater, the mission of the program is to help each child realize her or his fullest potential. To achieve this, children are instructed through Christian principles at every step of the artistic process where it is only through Christ that talents are fully realized. Knowing that not every child who passes through its gates desires to be a professional artist, the primary focus of the program is to use the theater arts to instill in each child the confidence, dedication, and self-awareness that she or he needs in order to flourish in a challenging world. Additionally, as she grows her confidence, she is simultaneously growing her unique gifts and talents as an artist if she should also desire a professional career. In this way, children of all levels of talent and experience are enriched through the program, acquiring the life skills necessary to compete and flourish in life. The program is open to 9th through 12th grade children of the Pomona Valley who desire to find a closer relationship with Christ through a powerful exploration of the arts including acting, dance, music and vocal training, as well as the visual arts.
